Week 11:Presentation Board

We need the presentation board for present our design project thing. So.our next work is the presentation board!

Online searching the example of doing the presentation board, this are what we decide to use like the example for our group presentation board.

Example that we picked:

Presentation board is for those who want to present and explain what they produce,so the setting is very important.

After me and my group members had discuss the presentation board, the final sketch is out.

The size of the presentation board is A2size and then we will use illustrator and photoshop to adjust the texts and images together. After that we will print it out.

Conclusion:Now the job is still on the way, I need to keep moving to finish the        presentation board. It is a very important thing for let others see          what they cannot see on the gameboard, so we must put on the              presentation board.

Let's await the final look of the presentation board~~

Week 10:Final Project

As keep going move on,the next step after the snakes and ladders had done. We try to make the description.

Number of snakes and ladders and the meaning for what they represented :
snakes:52. cut down trees.  62. lazy to recycle.   88. littering.    95. use styrofoam too much.  97. waste production
ladders : 3. Buy recycled products.  8. Become a part of recycling community.  25. Throw the trash into the right recycle bins.   28. Ask people to join recycle more.  58. Plant trees  72. Cash for cans  80. Put recycle bins around neighborhood
For the description thing, we printed the pictures out and then cut it.As we want the description be like 3D so we used the mounting board to support the back. The method was cutting the mounting board in rectangular shape and use double sided tape to stick it at the back.
Photos from the certain parts:

After the description done and stick on the gameboard, finally our design thing done!
Final Look~

Conclusion:I feel very happy and satisfied after see our design project thing          finished. Now,we still have the presentation board. And the presentation        day is coming...

Week 9:Project

As we decide our design solution thing,we went to buy our materials for making and then start to do it.

The materials that we need for our design thing:
2 A2 size of boards;color papers;satay sticks;clay;glue;scissor;pens

Progress;
After prepare all the materials, we start to do our work.

Measure the length and weight of every single squares by 4cm x 4cm on the board and also the color papers. And then cut the color papers out.

Stick the double-side tape on the color paper and then stick it to board. Also write the number at the surface of the color paper.

As we call this game snake and ladder,so it will have the snakes and ladders.

For the snake, we use the white clay to form it.But according to the game,we make it as different length.

Beside that, for the ladders we use the satay sticks to make it. Cut the sticks into the size what we need and then use the glue to form it.

After the snakes and ladders had done, put them onto the board. Finally the basic part of the gameboard done.

Conclusion,it seem very nice for our thing is on the way to produce. We try to use the green color paper, it is because green mean recycle. That is what we want to express at this gameboard.

Week 8: Idea

Last time we already discuss and decide to do a gameboard for our design solution thing. After that we keep research and think about this idea.No matter search online or discuss with teacher.

Example I searched online and we try to do:

Also, we try to sketch out our idea.

Those are sketched by Silvya. She sketched the idea out at the sketch book and we decided to use her one for our group design solution thing.

Actually the gameboard is one of the snake chess. We use the stair as the good action and then can climb up but the snake as the bad action so will go down.Beside that,we will put the images of recycling materials in it.

The main reason and function of this gameboard is to let the player know more about the recycling when they playing this chess.

Week 7: Discuss

For our group proposal things, we need to submit until chapter 2. Also inside there are include acknowledge, preface, list of figure, content, introduction and more.

We submit at the day which lecturer wanted us to submit and then they give back us the things with some comments and errors need to edit.

The cover page of our proposal, lecturer want us to change our topic by using another more interesting one.
Acknowledge

Preface
List of figures:what we put inside our proposal we need to put the source that where it came from and the pages.

Introduction

Content

Chapter 1:In this chapter,we put the research about our topic to show more about the recycle.

Gantt Chart:This is the list to show what the work we done by who and what we had done.

Conclusion:As more of our works had the error like the font and space, so we will change it and edit them into correct way.

Week 6:Interview and survey

Our group project has to interview someone for let us to know about what people feel especially the students. The questions that I ask were just simple and direct through our topic.

Question 1:What does the word "recycle" meant to you?
Question 2:Do you often recycle things?if yes, how do you do that?
Question 3:What is the way you think that can we do for encouraging children or        teenagers to recycle?

The images were I type out after the interview. At first, I try to interview those students who are still study in secondary school.
But lecturer give us the suggestion is we can try not to only focus on secondary school students also the primary school. So,I go and interview one of the primary school student which study at Singapore.

After the interview, I can know that they know about what is recycle but they do not recycle enough. The reasons may are they don't have interest of it and some are because the knowledge of recycling are not enough to them.

Due to what me and my group mates have know, we try to solve the problem and put our ideas inside the design solution thing.

For the survey:
We type out the questions and then post on the survey monkey to let people do the survey. There are the questions...

After we conclude all the survey result at the survey monkey,we summarize it by using the chart to make the report.Beside that,we also do the conclusion for it.

Week 5 :Culture

The blog topic for this week is "culture". Culture means that the quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits.

So I find the research of other country, look for how they do for the recycle.

India

  • In Dharavi, India, many people make a living by creating their own recycling factories. It is estimated that the self-made recycling industry employs roughly 200,000 people. It’s not merely taking care of waste, but a way of life and a source of income.
  • India recycles roughly 40 percent of their e-waste a year. This includes such items as broken or unwanted electrical appliances.

Europe

  • Austria takes the cake by recycling roughly 60 percent of its waste.
  • The United Kingdom recycles roughly 17.7 percent of its waste. Ireland, Italy, and Portugal are around the same percentage.
  • The majority of recycling in the United Kingdom is handled by authorities. They institute incentives in order to encourage recycling. For example, a landfill tax is charged on top of normal landfill fees to encourage business and local authorities to recycle, reduce, and reuse.
  • Many of the products the United Kingdom recycles include, but are not limited to, paper (including cards), glass, clothes, shoes and aluminum cans.

Japan and China

  • In China, recycling isn’t just a citizen responsibility; it’s now considered second nature. Citizens and government alike in China are taking steps to encourage recycling. This has also become a profit machine. The citizens who diligently collect recyclables off the street are numbered around 2.5 million people. These scrap collectors earn the equivalent of $150 a month which is roughly half of what a cab driver earns in that country in the same time frame.
  • It is estimated that 20 percent of the countries waste is disposed of improperly in China. This includes such items as building materials.
  • Despite this, Beijing has built the world’s largest recycling facility and continues to install recycling bins. The city of Beijing hopes to increase their recycling rate from 10 percent to 80 percent by 2010.
  • In Japan, recycling is a $360 billion dollar industry.
  • In 1995, Japan established the Containers and Packaging Recycling Act to "meet the increasing need to reduce the volume of solid waste and make full use of recyclable resources by means of sorted collection and to recycle waste containers and wrapping." The Japan Containers and Packaging Recycling Association helps to take on this responsibility by investing and managing recycling fees.

South America

  • In Brazil, nearly 500 cooperatives employ approximately 500,000 recycling collectors. This is a $3 billion industry.
  • Fifty percent of the 140,000 tons of trash generated daily in Brazil is recycled.
  • Chile opened its first electronic scrap recycling facility in 2005.
  • Peru opened its first recycling plant in 2007, which processes plastic packaging.

Africa

  • The Glass Recycling Company has partnered with the government and glass manufacturers in South Africa in an attempt to increase the current glass recycling rate. This partnership increased recycling rates from 148,000 tons to 183,000 tons of glass recycling in roughly a year and a half.
  • In Egypt, refuse collectors actually buy the right to collect trash since it is seen as such a profitable business. The collectors gather and recycle anything they can turn for a profit.
